
To support the government actions in dealing with the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA), The Indonesian Children's Toys Consortium (KMAI) has conducted a consolidation with its members they are the businessmen, the procurement of goods and services, and craftsmen of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) which are totally numbered for approximately 600 groups (under the PKBM or stand alone), each group consist of 10-15 people scattered on the island of Java.
In relation with suh matter, the Chairman of KMAI Dra. Nunuk Pramudiyati, Psi, who is also member of the drafting team of SNI for Toys, as the toy experts, accompanied by the Secretary General of KMAI Gunawan, the drafter of RSNI for toys Renaldi and Sudaryanti met Head of National Standardization Agency for Indonesia (BSN), Dr. Bambang Setiadi at the BSN office in Jakarta, yesterday (26/01/2010).
On that occasion, the KMAI Chairman delivered a few things related with the ACFTA the first was, in principle, KMAI members are not worried to compete with China, because it believes that if Indonesia is capable to produce toys that meet the quality of " safety toys " then buyer by themselves will choose domestic-made products. Second, members of KMAI support the implementation of SNI but still hope to get support from the government, among others in form of regular training, support equipment as well as the ease in obtaining for capital.
And third, in order to win the domestic market, will be required for consistency in the application of Decree No. 80 of year 2003 regarding Procurement of goods and services stating that the goods purchased for government purposes should use the goods marked with SNI. Thus, SMEs that have been able to produce the product according to the SNI could participate in the government's tender.
Head of BSN receive these inputs and further explained that the BSN has prepared an "Action Plan" in facing of ACFTA, among others, will soon set up a SNI related with security of toys by way of adopting the existing international standards, and support the implementation of Presidential Decree Number 80 of Year 2003.
From the said meeting, has been agreed that as further steps will be initiated socialization and education of the SNI to SMEs through KMAI, college through curriculum and early childhood education. In addition, being obtained for information that the SMEs had also been able to sell toys that raw materials theof originated from wood and has penetrated the international market as an example of the following drawing.
Currently, the Indonesian association of children's toys namely APMI (Indonesian Toy Maker Association) by its chairman Sudarman Widjaya and APMETI (Indonesian Traditional and Educative Toys Activist Association) with its chairman Dhanang Sasongko. (sri)
