ISO / TC 207 (Environmental Management) held the 17th plenary meeting which lasted from the 11th up to 17th July 2010 in Leon, Mexico. As we know, the ISO / TC 207 consist of Sub-Committee (SC), Working Group (WG) and the Terminology Coordination Group (TCG). The SCs are the SC1 (Environmental Management Systems), the SC 2 (Environmental Auditing and Related Investigation), the SC 3 (Environmental Labeling), the SC 4 (Environmental Performance Evaluation), the SC 5 (Life-cycle Assessment), and the SC 7 (Greenhouses Gas Management and Related Activities). While The WGs are the WG 7 (Environmental Aspect in Product Standard) and the WG 8 (Material-Flow Cost Accounting Workshop).


TCG responsible for setting terms and definitions in the field of Environmental Management. Along with the implementation of the referred       plenary meeting, each of those SCs and WGs also held technical hearings based on their respective jobs. Several important points discussed by each SC, for example at the SC 1 discussed on preparation of the ISO 14001 revision for the new structure. While at the SC 2 presented that currently the 19011 review was under ballot process until November 2010. While the SC 3 is currently under planning to revise the ISO 14020, 14021, 14024, 14025. Which currently under the revision process is the ISO 14021 by including carbon footprint and carbon neutral.

Furthermore, the SC 4 is currently discussing the response against the ISO 14031review. In the SC 7 there are 2 WGs they are WG 1 and WG 2. WG 1 is currently still completing the discussion on response against draft of the ISO 14 066 regarding requirements and competencies for person in charge for GHG validation and verification. Whereas in the WG 2 ISO 14067-1 regarding Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP) - Part 1: Quantification and ISO 14067-2 draft on CFP- Part 2: Communication. At the Ad Hoc desertification has been agreed that the Indonesian proposal regarding Deforestation will enter into the Land Degradation, thus the determination of scope of desertification comes into Land Degradation.

Which is very exciting for the delegation during this meeting was the appointment of Indonesia as chairman of the Ad Hoc Group of GHG Monitoring / Measurement Methodology. On Saturday July 17, 2010 as the last day of such referred Plenary Meeting of ISO / TC 207 was closed by the Chairman of TC 207 Robert Page. ISO / TC 207 consists of 74 P-State Members, 33 O-State Members, 21 ISO Liaison Committee, IEC Liaison Committee, Organization and Liaison 32. In the Plenary Meeting was generated as many as 16 resolutions and one of these is the acceptance of Resolution Important New Work Item Proposal (NWIP) about the deforestation issue by ISO / TC 207 proposed by Indonesia.

In trial this time, Indonesia sent eight person delegation led by Dr. Bambang Setiadi (Head BSN). While members will consist of three people from the Ministry of Environment, one person from the Ministry of Forestry, a person from the Ministry of Industry, and two staff members other than Head of BSN. Another important resolution in the Plenary Meeting was agreed that the implementation of the Assembly of ISO / TC 207 is planned to be held next month in July 2011 in Oslo, Norway and 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand.
