(Berita Daerah-Sulawesi), National Standardization Body (BSN) has target to publish approximately 300 new products with Indonesian National Standard (SNI) to increase the quality and grade of Indonesia's products.

"The publication of SNI is continually added each year, in an effort to increase the resources in Indonesia, so the quality is better, because it encourages publication of SNI," said the Deputy of Standardization Information and Socialization of BSN, Dewi Odjar Ratna Komala during the workshop standardization information services improvement and the stakeholder participation in standardization activities in Manado.

Dewi says the increasing number of SNI products will be better, because it means improving the quality and variety of natural wealth and resources of Indonesia.

The Head of Standardization Information and Documentation BSN, Abdul Rahman Saleh, says the proposing of SNI gaining from BSN can be done through two systems, first through the standardization  society (Mastan) and second, through the relevant technical institution in the local area.

"Mastan can communicate directly to BSN, and then made the publishing process in several stages, the same procedure for the nomination of the relevant agencies," said Abdul.

Abdul says the proposing a SNI gaining requires a minimum of six months due to having to go through various processes.

"At least there are three stages when a proposal is accepted by BSN, which is the draft of SNI (RSNI) first, the second of RSNI with the public comment, and then go to the final RSNI," said Abdul.

SNI that had been published in every five years will be done a review, when it is not in accordance with the conditions or the times, so BSN will abolish (canceled) or only the revised.

Especially on the SNI proposed by government through relevant agencies, Abdul said, when it passes through the various design processes of SNI, it will be set as SNI in mandatory.

"Until now, there are about 500 SNIs and then abolished because it was not fit to be used," Abdul said.

Less Knowledge on SNI

Indonesian people knowledge on Indonesian National Standard (SNI) is still low. Therefore, it needed sustainable socialization including on utilizing internet network.

"It should be admitted that some of Indonesian societies are not understood on what SNI is because the socialization to all stakeholders must be done continually and involves many parties", said the Deputy of Standardization Information and Socialization Sector of Indonesian National Body (BSN), Dewi Odjar Ratna Komala in Manado.

Dewi said on understanding on the lack of public understanding of the SNI, and then her party does many groundbreakings collaboration with universities and other parties, as well as introducing the widespread internet network owned by BSN and optimizing functions of Mastan (the standardization society).

"In the current era of globalization, the public will be served a variety of products and services not only domestically, but also from abroad, this must be addressed with knowledge of the standards of the community in better ways," said Dewi.

Cooperation with eight universities in several regions in Indonesia through the provision of special curriculum of standardization meant that the community will be increasingly understood the importance of the implementation of standards.

"BSN open opportunity for society throughout Indonesia to work together in a single internet network of BSN, thus they will be able to know the progress of standardization both nationally and internationally," said Dewi.
